Keep the Future Human
Future of Life Institute
How do we keep the future human as AI accelerates? We designed and managed Keep the Future Human, a three-day convening in New Orleans that brought together organizational leaders from across labor unions, civil liberties groups, faith communities, child safety advocates, and democracy organizations — audiences that don't always share a table, let alone a agenda — to find common ground on a pro-human vision for AI's development.
Rather than keynotes and panels, we built a highly interactive agenda around small-group discussion and hands-on activities, moving participants from personal reflection ("what would you like to preserve or protect in a pro-human future?") through structured debate over a set of draft principles, to a final signed declaration. The convening surfaced a clear signal: these organizations wanted more than a shared statement — they wanted ongoing infrastructure to coordinate with each other. That insight is now shaping a proposed second phase, in which we'd help convene and facilitate domain-specific civil society working groups over two years, turning the declaration's principles into practical tools and building the coordinated capacity to act when legislative and regulatory moments arise.
